For the past three years I've been giving the same Christmas gift to the sibling I have each year (we rotate in our family). Growing up, we had a nativity story board set that my mom made when I was really young. I'm not sure I can keep it up four more times (and I don't even have one for myself yet), but I always feel pretty accomplished each time I finish a new set (it takes over 35 hours to get the set done). Sometimes I just sit and look at it for a while. :) This year, I actually finished the set in October (amazing, for me), which was a nice change from December the previous 2 years, so I gave it to Dominic & Jen Thanksgiving weekend to enjoy it for the whole season.
There are 12 boards (that are 11" by 11"):
This is Mary. This is Joseph.

... wait a minute... does this mean you just gave away what my present is going to be next year?
I'm rotating in next year, that's FINAL!
it looks great! and i like all the shiny stuff you add.
So, all growing up, my family used that same little poem of the nativity story!! I even made a book of it for a project in my Elementary Education classes in college. Damon has loved looking at it. I love your project and just might have to try it out some day. How creative...I'm sure your siblings are grateful you are mastering this:)
Very impressive!!!
That is just beautiful Caitlin. What a special gift! I hope you will have time to make one for yourself one day! Congratulations on your pregnancy which I just learned about from your sidebar. I hope you are feeling well!
I would love to have one of those. You need to share how it's made...please!
We love ours so much! I brought them and had Iris recite it for everyone in Park City for our Christmas program. You are amazing! Thank you so much!!!!
